This is funny. You people taking offense to this post need to chill out. Us white people had it coming. I mean, we rule the country, and in turn, most of the world. Its about time someone said we deserve a good kick in the ass for all the evil we've caused along the way.
But while we're at it. You could say the EXACT same thing about christianity. They killed millions of people in the name of god. The Spanish. The British. The Americans. And plenty more I don't care to list. My point is that you can't blame the "white person" for all these atrocities. You have to blame the human race. My father said, sometime around 1985, that there would, in my lifetime, be another depression and a race war. It seems we are on the cusp of the former. The latter, well perhaps.
My fathers parents came to the U.S. in 1910 from Hungary. He could remember the Italians attempting to burn the house he lived in. Evidently the Hungarians and Italians did not get along. My mothers grandfather came from Ireland during the mid 19th century. Do we need to reiterate the wrongs done to the Irish?
Now, am I owed reparations for the behavior of the Italians and those heaping wrongs on the Irish. No. Do I own anyone reparations for slavery or treatment of the American Indian? NO. Just because I am white does not make me responsible. These people need to get over it and move on. Looking for a handout is not the solution to their problems. Stay in school, don't do felony crime, don't do drugs, don't hang with gangs, don't get yourself or anyone else pregnant. Relatively easy but I guess it's easier to blame someone, especially when it's almost impossible to craft a nexus between someones lack of success and how a race, religion or the like was treated 150 years ago.

Why would people who happen to share the same skin color as some assholes in the past deserve to have atrocities committed against them? Why would ANYONE -deserve- an atrocity for that matter?
This is a great example of how racism works. It's about dehumanizing an entire group of people, making them subject to prejudices or crimes that have nothing to do with them. For black slaves, it was the curse of Ham. Now, apparently, it's the crimes of war of American settlers.
The entire point of anti-racist position is to understand that there's NO SUCH THING as races. Genetically, you're more likely to similar to a person from another race than from your own. There are so few differences between the human "races" that it doesn't even make sense to call them that.
And on that basis, how could anyone who understands why racism is evil and wrong ever follow the same line of reasoning?
Let's ignore for a moment the basic fact that no one is responsible for the crimes of their fathers. How exactly do we go about doing this?
Do the people of the Middle East and China get to rape and kill the Mongolians for what their descendants did to their empires? Or is just white people who "deserve" this?

This is ridiculous. The white race doesn't deserve anything, horrible people in the past deserve to be remembered as such and horrible people now deserve to be treated as such, but to say that the entire white race deserves the same treatment is in fact racist and COMPLETELY misses the point of racial justice.
To add to that, yes America has done some incredibly bad things and some things that we still haven't put right or apologized for, but the fact remains that there is no country on earth with the liberty, freedom and compassionate citizenry that this one has. We donate more money, time and resources to humanitarian work than any other country and I feel like that speaks volumes about who we are as a people and the fact that we are NOT the same naive people who omitted atrocious acts.

However, your point about slavery and inequality is at least based on valid fact, but I would still contend that seeing as we ended slavery in 1865 it's hard to hold anyone accountable today for the wrongs of those who lived generations before. I would also go on to note that the united states, while certainly not the first to abolish slavery (which is admittedly a sad fact), had institutionalized slavery for one of the shortest periods of time or any major nation throughout history. Does that make it acceptable? Of course not, and no one is arguing that it does, but I feel that it does speak to the fact that we realized there was a problem and worked to stop it and made our country better as a result. Now compare that with other civilizations who had extablished and condoned slavery for 600 or 800 years instead of a couple hundred. Once again, that doesn't make it right, or even make it "more right", but it does show how we can adapt and change to make things right.
There's been no nation in history that's been perfect, there never will be. Every nation now and in the future is going to have those moments where its citizens look back and say "crap...our ancestors really messed that up", but there are only a few that say "but that's not going to stop us from being better" and the U.S. is one of those places.

i didnt do anything to anyone. i firmly believe in equal rights for everyone. i am an activist for anti-racism and unequality issues. i really dont feel like i should have to pay for what some people who were related to me did before i was even born. i dont know if people realize this or not... but not every white person in america owned a slave... there were white people that were poor too. according to my ancestry records, my family was dirt poor. didnt even own property, let alone slaves. and my family were immigrants also... so my family didnt have anything to do with the slaughter of native americans either. infact... very few people in america today are actual decendants of the original soldiers in america. not to mention that soldiers rarely choose who they kill, they are told by their leaders who to kill.
